Pakistan concerned about Thailand situation: spokesperson

Pakistan concerned about Thailand situation: spokesperson

Pakistan said Wednesday that it was watching with concern developments in Thailand, where the Thai army has seized power in a bloodless coup.

TV channels quoted Pakistan’s Foreign Office spokeswoman Tasnim
Aslam as saying that the country was closely monitoring the situation
in Thailand with concern.

She called for political stability in Thailand, adding that calm would continue and violence would be avoided.

The spokesperson said that Islamabad enjoys cordial relations with Bangkok and that Pakistan wishes political stability there.

The Thai army declared martial law late Tuesday and banned
large gatherings of people after the government of Thai Prime Minister
Thaksin Shinawatra was dismissed and the parliament dissolved.

Thaksin Shinawatra was at the UN General Assembly in New York, where he canceled his speech after the coup.
